Six Fun Things to Do in the Dallas Arts District

Klyde Warren Park

Have you ever strolled in an urban park that is built on top of a freeway? Most likely not, but you can when you head for Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas. In a short amount of time, this 5-acre park, built above Woodall Rodgers Freeway, has become one of the top attractions in the city. Whether you check out a book, magazine, or board game from the lending library, or order some gourmet cuisine from the dozens of food trucks, listen to live music, or just partake in some world-class people-watching.

Nasher Sculpture Center

Considered one of the best collections of sculpture in the world, the Nasher Sculpture Center features more than 300 modern sculptures from great artists like Gormley, Matisse, Miró, Picasso, and Rodin. It is renowned for its block-long outdoor sculpture garden.

Crow Museum of Asian Art

Aficionados of Asian art are fascinated by the Crow Museum of Asian Art According to the museum’s website, “It is one of only a handful of museums in the country dedicated solely to the arts and cultures of Japan, China, India, and Southeast Asia. During your visit, you will see jade ornaments from China, delicate Japanese scrolls, and a rarely seen 2-by-28-foot sandstone façade of an 18th-century Indian residence.”

Dallas Museum of Art

A must-stop on any day trip to the Dallas Arts District is the world-famous Dallas Museum of Art. The museum has more than 22,000 pieces spanning the third millennium BC to the present day, including works from O'Keeffe, Pollock, Warhol, Monet, and a new exhibit from Jonas Wood. This is his first major solo exhibit that traces his fascination with psychology, memory, and the self. The price of admission is family-friendly. It’s free!

AT&T Performing Arts Center

One of the best-kept secrets of the Dallas Arts scene is the AT&T Performing Arts Center. It features a dazzling array of constantly changing performance arts - from music to stage performances. On its vibrant 10-acre downtown campus, the nonprofit Center operates three of the nation’s finest performance venues: the Winspear Opera House, Wyly Theatre, Strauss Square, and the welcoming public green space, Sammons Park. Click here for the current schedule of shows at this fabulous venue in downtown Dallas.

Architecture Walking Tour

Many believe the best way to explore this downtown neighborhood's fascinating history is on foot during a 90-minute Dallas Arts District Architecture Walking Tour. There was a time when Forney, TX was one of those “sleepy little towns” that offered an amazing place to raise a family but required some “windshield time” to get to any shopping destination. As the residents of Devonshire , the master-planned community located just east of Highway 80 near FM 548 know, the family-friendly atmosphere is still one of the wonderful attributes of Forney. However, the days of needing a tank of gas to buy groceries are long gone. Shopping is convenient. With the huge popularity of Devonshire and an influx of new companies locating to the charming suburban area east of Dallas, retail shopping - of every category - has come to the Forney area in a BIG way. This is just another reason residents love to live here. Starting With the Basics With growing families and the popularity of Chopped, there is one retail experience guaranteed to be a part of every week. It’s grocery shopping. While some people enjoy heading to the grocery store, shopping list prepared, and visions of delicious meals, others are not that excited about this trip. Like it or not, grocery shopping is part of everyone's TO DO list. PRO TIP: Never grocery shop when you’re hungry. The basket will be overflowing, and when you get home, you’ll ask yourself, “what was I thinking?” Finding a great grocery store is one of the benefits of living in Devonshire. This is especially true for professional sports. It would be tough to find an area, in any part of the world, with more high-profile, successful sports franchises than this area of North Texas.
